Crime Statistics Agency Data Tables - Copper and scrap metal theft by local government area

The number of copper and scrap metal property items recorded as stolen in Victoria, by local government area (LGA), by financial year, from 2021-22 to 2025-26 (July 2021 to June 2026). Use this dataset for copper theft, metal theft and scrap metal theft statistics by council area. Counts are of property items recorded as stolen by Victoria Police, not of offences or incidents. A property item is counted once each time Victoria Police records a property type, so it is not a quantity: 50 litres of petrol or 150 sheep each count as 1. Covers copper pipes, scrap metal and wire stolen in offences classified as Burglary/Break and Enter (B30) or Theft (B40). Includes a category for offences at justice institutions and immigration facilities, Unincorporated Victoria, and where the location is unknown. Property item recording has declined over time and some offences have no property type recorded, so the figures may not reflect all items stolen and should be compared over time with caution. The Crime Statistics Agency (CSA) is responsible for processing, analysing and publishing Victorian crime statistics, independent of Victoria Police.
